HOMEOWNERS today are more concerned about security when buying a property, and more are going for smart home security system to help their family and property from any break-in, kidnapping, murder or rape.
According iNix Technologies Sdn Bhd's business development manager Ralph Yew, with the increase of break-ins in residential areas today, the need for a home security system to protect one's assets and loved ones has become necessary.
Market research company Synovate Group's analysis on intelligent home system in Malaysia projects the industry to be worth RM24 million per year.
Technologies is fast taking its role in the home security arena through various implementations such as the mobile phone and the Internet. "For example, today's homeowners want to stay connected and be in control of their homes via the mobile phone. So they may opt for an intelligent home security, which is more comprehensive than just a simple house alarm," Yes says.

The trend, he adds, is towards intelligent home systems that offer home security, close-circuit TV surveillance, home automation control, and Internet home monitoring via the personal computer and mobile phone.
The more popular products are the SecureSmith smart home system, Clipsal system and Qtron.
Yew says for a home to utilise a smart home system, it needs to have an Internet connection. "This will allow homeowners to constantly monitor their loved ones, and to safeguard their property against theft, intrusion and fire."

Products such as the SecureSmith system has a remote monitoring software that allows home control and surveillance utilising both fixed Internet protocol and dynamic IP.
Yew says homeowners normally budget anything from RM2,000 for a double-story house, and between RM3,000 and RM5,000 for a semi-detached house for a home security system.
The SecureSmith system, he says, is targeted at property developers. To date, the system is installed in housing projects managed by SP Setia Bhd, Proton City Tajung Malim, and Alam Tenggara in Kuantan.
