Smart home focus on CherasBY STEVEN PATRICKINIX Technologies Sdn Bhd (www.inix.com.my) wants every home in the Cheras district of Kuala Lumpur to be a smart home. The company will embark on a marketing blitz to sell its Secure Smith (www.securesmith.com.my) “smart home in a box” product to all Cheras residents. “To have Secure Smith in every home in Cheras within three years would be our ultimate goal,” Inix business development manager Ralph Yew told In.Tech last week. “We will be going for the retail market, and will be advertising on billboards and radio,” he said, but declined to say how much his company would be spending. Secure Smith has previously only been available, via distributors, to property developers in Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. Secure Smith combines security, automation and CCTV (closed circuit television) systems. Yew estimates that there are 200,000 people living in Cheras, and is confident that demand for his company's product will be healthy in the area as “there is also a lot of development going on.” “There are about 20 to 30 developers here. The market is ready,” he said. Yew said residents could start with a basic wireless security alarm for RM1,500 before upgrading to a full-fledged smart home system for RM2,500. He claimed that Secure Smith was a simple plug-and-play product, while most other systems required wiring. “Conventional alarm systems with a single level of protection do not guarantee the prevention of break-ins,” said Gabriel Lim, director of Efficient Aim Sdn Bhd, a Secure Smith distributor. “With Secure Smith, the effective integration of automation, surveillance and security provides multiple levels of protection,” he claimed. Installing Secure Smith in a home allows owners to give it a “lived-in look” to outsiders, Inix Technologies claimed. The system can switch on and off lights, TV sets or any other electrical appliance homeowners select, at intervals or at random times. Inix currently has 28 dealers in the Klang Valley, Johor Baru, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak. These dealers provide installation and aftersales services.
